Our drizzly weather kept us from the pumpkin patch 3 different times we had planned on going. When the sun finally came out we dashed over there to get our pumpkins, find our way through the maze, and visit a few farm animals. Noah was in heaven.

The Spelts FamilyOctober 25th, 2010The busy Fall season of family photo sessions is here. These sweeties spent a Saturday afternoon with me. I learned all about Michigan football, Star Wars, and silly jokes. This little guy helped me out by taking a few photos for me. |

One day last week I got together with a group of 10 and 11 year old girls for a little photography discussion. The girls brought their cameras and we talked about what makes a photograph successful. We walked around my inside and outside finding good lighting for photographs. I showed them how window light gives your subject gorgeous lighting compared to a dark area in the house with a flash. I explained that the cloudy weather we’ve been having is fantastic for giving us nice even lighting outside. We talked finding open shade when it’s sunny, and what back lighting does. They already knew you should not have your subjects face the sun directly because they will be squinting. Then we talked about paying attention to the background and how you frame your subjects. Finally we touched on eye contact, and great ways of making your subject feel comfortable in front of the camera to get the best results.
They were incredibly enthusiastic and eager to learn. They took pictures of each other by the windows, standing on walls, and making silly faces. They all spent a long time photographing the flowers outside, and anything they found interesting. There was a lot of giggling, and loud high pitched voices. It was great fun. Hopefully I can do it again sometime. Here are a few of the photos taken that day.

My 2 red heads have a special kind of bond. I like to watch them play together. It makes me happy.

Missing DaddyOctober 6th, 2010You may recognize these two beauties from earlier this year when they did this session right before Ricardo left for Afghanistan. Now they are counting down the months and days until he returns home next year. I sure hope it goes by quickly. You deserve it! |

Stella and JuneauOctober 5th, 2010Joanna has 2 of the cutest little French Bulldogs I’ve ever seen. It still makes me laugh thinking about all the crazy animal sounds Tim and I were making to get their attention. Luckily they survived the horrible heat wave we had during their session. Luckily they survived the horrible heat wave we had during their session. It was brutal, and I’m sure they slept all the way home in the air conditioned car.
