Getting Ready

October 27th, 2010

Our drizzly weather kept us from the pumpkin patch 3 different times we had planned on going. When the sun finally came out we dashed over there to get our pumpkins, find our way through the maze, and visit a few farm animals. Noah was in heaven.

The Spelts Family

October 25th, 2010

The busy Fall season of family photo sessions is here. These sweeties spent a Saturday afternoon with me. I learned all about Michigan football, Star Wars, and silly jokes. This little guy helped me out by taking a few photos for me.

Teaching the Basics of Photography

One day last week I got together with a group of 10 and 11 year old girls for a little photography discussion. The girls brought their cameras and we talked about what makes a photograph successful. We walked around my inside and outside finding good lighting for photographs. I showed them how window light gives your subject gorgeous lighting compared to a dark area in the house with a flash. I explained that the cloudy weather we’ve been having is fantastic for giving us nice even lighting outside. We talked finding open shade when it’s sunny, and what back lighting does. They already knew you should not have your subjects face the sun directly because they will be squinting. Then we talked about paying attention to the background and how you frame your subjects. Finally we touched on eye contact, and great ways of making your subject feel comfortable in front of the camera to get the best results.

They were incredibly enthusiastic and eager to learn. They took pictures of each other by the windows, standing on walls, and making silly faces. They all spent a long time photographing the flowers outside, and anything they found interesting. There was a lot of giggling, and loud high pitched voices. It was great fun. Hopefully I can do it again sometime. Here are a few of the photos taken that day.

I’ve been busy editing photos of cute little ones and their parents and taking care of the crankiest 1 year old on the planet. The past 2 weeks he has changed from sweet, calm, and easy going to screaming, yelling, and crying non stop. Of course I blame it on the 5 teeth he is [...]

I’ve been busy editing photos of cute little ones and their parents and taking care of the crankiest 1 year old on the planet. The past 2 weeks he has changed from sweet, calm, and easy going to screaming, yelling, and crying non stop. Of course I blame it on the 5 teeth he is getting all at the same time poor kid.

My 2 red heads have a special kind of bond. I like to watch them play together. It makes me happy.

Oliver

I got to meet Oliver last year as a newborn, and now he’s nearly 1. It’s always fun to go back to see these little ones grow up. I love to see their big personalities, and how much they have changed. These one year old sessions are also great because the parents are so happy [...]

Simple Things

October 13th, 2010

Sometimes, after a long day at school and too much homework, it’s good to get outside and enjoy time with a friend. The simple things in life are the best aren’t they?

Baby sister

October 11th, 2010

This little guy just turned 3 and became a new big brother. He was full of smiles, and lots of fun. His baby sister is so beautiful and sweet natured. Isn’t this little giraffe too cute? The whole family

Brother and Sister

It was great to see these two again. They’re growing up so fast. I can tell they are becoming such independent, smart, and of course, good looking kids.

Missing Daddy

October 6th, 2010

You may recognize these two beauties from earlier this year when they did this session right before Ricardo left for Afghanistan. Now they are counting down the months and days until he returns home next year. I sure hope it goes by quickly. You deserve it!
